TILING

Tiles are quintessential for bathrooms, kitchen walls, and many house entries. They are meant to hinder liquid and soil infiltration as well as the aesthetics. The most common size for floor and wall tiles are 1' by 2', but they can vary depending on the customers' taste.

Unlike wood flooring, which can be pieced together fairly rapidly, tiles must not only be adhered to floor or wall by cementitious mortar, but also bordered in between individual pieces with grout to prevent cracking when tile expands in the long-term. Each piece must also be manually installed perfectly level with one another before the mortar dries permanently.

Fortunately, backsplash tile installation does not need to be installed with mortar. Because they are always on walls and not floor there is no need to take heavy impact into consideration and a type of glue called mastic can be used. This type of glue is sticker than mortar when applying and does not require buttering the back of tiles the way mortar must be done for installation. Hence backsplash installation can be completed a lot faster.
